Tampa Bay Frogman Swim 2024
Not swimming but you would still like to be involved?  Come out and volunteer and help us "never leave a man behind". A variety of roles at the start, finish and post event party venue are available.  All volunteers will receive a shirt and admission to the infamous post race party! Our past volunteers will tell you this is one of the most impactful and meaningful volunteer opportunities they've experienced!

The Tampa Bay Frogman Swim is a 3.5 mile open water swim and fundraiser that supports the Navy SEAL Foundation (NSF), a 501(c)(3) with a coveted four star rating by Charity Navigator. 100% of net proceeds go directly to support the mission of the NSF. 
This is a crucial volunteer postion--YOU MUST BE AN EXPERIENCED OPEN WATER KAYAKER AS THERE IS THE POTENTIAL FOR ROUGH CONDITIONS AND THE SWIMMERS DEPEND ON THE KAYAKER FOR COURSE NAVIGATION AS WELL AS ACTING AS THE FIRST LINE OF DEFENSE IN OUR SAFTEY PLAN.  Most kayakers will be assigned a specific swimmer and are responsible for staying with the swimmer the entire distance. There will be other kayakers assigned to each wave as "rovers" to assist other kayakers and swimmers. 
Our Volunteer Coordinator will assign individuals to fill in gaps.
Volunteers will will be checking in the Kayakers and handing a t-shirt to registered kayakers and directing them to the kayak corral.This position also includes start area set up and breakdown. 
Volunteers for this role report at 0500 at Gandy Beach.  Primary job is to unload kayaks from vehicles as they pull up to the drop off zone.  The kayaks are then moved to the staging area according to waves. Must be able to lift and move kayaks. If available, volunteers can then move to the finish to help remove kayaks from the water and place them in the vehicle loading zone.
Volunteers will be assigned to one of 8 corrals where kayaks are staged per wave, each volunteer will have a list of kayakers and their assigned wave. Once a kayaker has registered, they are sent to the corral to check in to their wave.  Volunteers may direct kayaker to a different wave under the direction of the Team Lead if necessary.
Volunteers will be managing the food/beverage table at start and finish.  There will be water, oranges, bananas, bagels and peanut butter.  Volunteers will prepare and over see all food.  Once the first wave starts, volunteers will break down and take everything over to the finish area.
Volunteers work the donation table by accepting general donations from event attendees and collecting envelopes of checks from swimmers' fundraising efforts.
Duties to include handing provided plastic bags to swimmers, taping bags shut, writing swimmer name on bag and placing in the U-Haul truck. Once the swimmers begin to take off, volunteers will assist with start area breakdown, head to finish area and wait for the U-Haul to arrive. Volunteers will then unload the bags and hand out the gear bags to their owners. This position also includes finish area break down.
One volunteer will have a clipboard, swimmer list, and pencil, the other volunteer will operate a stopwatch. Once the horn goes off for the first wave, stopwatches are started and volunteers will head to the finish area.  Volunteer with the stopwatch will call out times and swimmer number fo the other volunteer to write time on the list. This position will also be responsible for finish area breakdown.
Under the supervison of Team Leads and Pinellas County Sheriffs, volunteers will direct vehicles to designated parking areas. Volunteers will then head to the finish area to do same.
Volunteers will assist and guide swimmers out of the water, through the corral leading up the beach, and up the ramp to the finish arch.
Volunteers assists kayaker at finish as they paddle up to dock and boat ramp.  Duties include helping kayakers exit their vessel, pull vessel out of the water, carry them to loading area, and help load vessels onto vehicles.
At the finish area, volunteers attach finisher coins to lanyards and run coins to Gold Star family memebers who are awarding to swimmers as they cross the finish line.
Volunteers assit with final preparations of finish area. Duties may include setting up tables, finish arch, clearing beach of rocks/shells, etc.  There are also some limited breakdown duties after the last swimmer finishes.
Volunteers help with prepartion of post event party at American Legion Post 138.  Duties to include placing placards on tables, setting up reserved tables, setting up/managing entry way to collect entry fees/check wrist bands, etc. We also need 6 volunteers to help one of the chefs during the party.
Volunteers in this role will be helping to set up the auction and raffle tables and assist bidders throughout the event. You may be asked to sell raffle tickets and/or 50/50 tickets at the American Legion post race party.
